Nicolas Herbé

« For me, painting is a way of channelling energy. »

Born in 1989 in the south of France, Nicolas Herbé is a contemporary artist based between Aix-en-Provence and Marseille. Self-taught, since 2018 he has been developing a practice centred on gesture and line, It is seen as a direct extension of the body and its inner state.

Influenced by urban cultures, his work goes beyond the codes of graffiti to take its place in the world of art. living, instinctive and committed abstraction. In some respects, his approach is reminiscent of the legacy of Georges Mathieu or Stanislas Kijno, particularly in their relationship to gesture and intensity, while at the same time asserting his own personal style.

His painting explores a balance between tension and breath, where each canvas becomes a space of energy and research.

Through his projects, in particular Ligne 36, he extends this approach beyond the frame, developing immersive experiences linked to movement and urban flows.

Nicolas Herbé works the gesture like a direct language, straightforward, where every line engages the body and the moment : « there's a kind of discipline in my work, almost physical, that allows me to let go of all control ».
