Mara

Mara is a collage artist who works both in galleries and in urban spaces.. Since childhood, drawing has been a natural language for him, the most direct way to express his ideas and give shape to his imagination.

In 2011, He created the character with the cross-shaped face, which over time became his true visual signature. This singular being, who is both everyone and no one, acts as a puppet that the artist stages in each of his works.. With him, Mara invents a narrative universe where humour, cynicism and poetry intermingle, while questioning our relationship with the world.

Based in Montpellier, He discovered graffiti and shifted his focus to a new medium: collage. Soon, his silhouettes were covering the city's walls, day and night, catching the attention of passers-by and residents alike. Life-size, his collages create an immediate sense of closeness with the viewer, like an unexpected encounter on a street corner.

At the heart of Mara's approach is the message. Her character acts as a mouthpiece, delivering a vision of everyday life that is sometimes funny, sometimes dark, but also a reflection on broader issues: ecology, technology, human nature, love. His works can thus be interpreted on several levels: accessible to children thanks to their visual impact and simplicity, they offer adults a more critical and nuanced interpretation.

Through the spontaneity of her gesture and the universality of her symbol, Mara develops a profoundly inclusive work, where everyone can recognise themselves. His characters on crosses, always bearing a double meaning, invite us to smile, reflect, and take a step back from our times.
